INFLUENCE

Growing up, I always loved school. I had keen interest in learning and discovering new things. Once I graduated high school, I had no idea what was next! For years, I struggled with what profession to pursue. I knew I wanted to "make a difference," but I wasn't sure how.
As a freshman in college, I still felt unsure of what I wanted to do. Fortunately, I was randomly selected to room with a girl that would help me find my answer. At the time, I didn’t realize the impact this person would have on me- nor did she. Fast forward a year, and I would be flying to visit my “random” roommate in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. We had grown close throughout our freshman year and I was eager and enthusiastic when she invited me to come visit her. I did not realize at this time, how significant this trip would be.
During my time in Honduras, I met her family for the first time. I was instantly impressed with the impact her family was making in their community. When I became aware her family had started a school, I was eager to go for a visit. As I walked through the gates of the school, I was greeted with warm, tight hugs from the young students. The feeling I felt from their hugs, was so moving. In that moment,  I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life. Since then, my passion for education and students has only grown stronger. I am no longer searching for a profession, I am pursuing my passion.
There have been many people that have impacted my life, from the encouragement of my family and friends to the unintentional inspiration of a stranger.  As a teacher, my goal is to make an impact- an impact that inspires and encourages those around me to grow into their fullest potential. As you go through life, you very well could be the one to “make a difference” in those around you.
So…. Make an impact. You could become someone’s reason why.
